Picture, if you will, a classic Newfoundland fisherman. Got it? The well built frame; sturdy, manly and strong. Notice the beard, trimmed and with a hint of red. Now, add hardworking, smart and dedicated. Now ignore all of his idiot fisherman friends. They are no good.

Remain focus on the fisherman. With the beard. And now picture the fisher man in a t-shirt. The perfect t-shirt.

Bench Sitting

Waiting for something, Mr$. Phre$h and Lil Mama sit on a bench on a main street. I did not realize it, but these old folks got a good thing going here. Its like people watching, but without the fear of being caught starring. Its perfect. And on a sunny day like today, couldn’t be beat. Unless it was in a convertible cursing the strip over and over again. Which we both decided is one up from bench sitting.

Summer Thunderstorms

This one is an easy one. Everyone likes warm rain and when the humidity breaks. Gorgeous day and during the walk home the storm began. No rain yet but you could see the lightning pretty close.

Its like being secretly free. secretly naked.

I am stuck in these never-ending (but really informative) seminars for this conference I am attending. I am all bunched in business clothes, sitting up straight and being polite, proper and no fun.

But just under the table I slip off my cleverly disguised “office sandals” as I call them, and spread out my toes and relax. Freedom!

American Fear Mongering TV

i will baby conner you

Today I am at a conference in the middle of nowhere. Well, actually its in the middle of two large cities. In the middle of these two cities is nothing. Thats where I am.

However, I am in a hotel. In this hotel is a TV. A TV with cable. Clearly, this is where I am running back to in between lectures and seminars and completely ditching out on any networking opportunities. I have TV to watch!

Me, Lil M and our friend, the original Boyz-2-Men sat in our hotel room and watched classic fear mongering TV: 20/20, W-five and American Justice.

We tried to do something in the town, but after walking the strip and talking to some folk that there is actually nothing to do here on a Friday night. Here is the conversation:

Lil M: “what is there to do around here on a Friday night?”

Young Lady : “Ummmmm, (pause) nothing really.”

Lil M: “Are there any drink specials tonight or anything?”

Young Lady: ” Ummmmmm, (pause) not really.”

According to this Young Lady, saturday night gets really hopping. I’m pretty sure I’ll be watching TV.

Today, my inbox delivered some excellent news. I am presenting work at an international conference!! I haven’t been to any of these yet (except local ones) and this is very exciting.

Now I just have to beg and plead for the travel grants to get me to Spain!

Fruits of my labour

I have watched them for a while, slowly growing and then turning pink and finally red. Today I ate my first literal fruit of my labour: a strawberry. Lil M had one too.

Hurray for crazy balcony gardens. I regularly add herbs from the GB handy work herb box to cooking but this was a little different. I cant wait until the jalepeno plant starts making poppers (get it!?!?) and the radishes and celery come out.

And, as pointed out, its organic.

Tunnel

Near my house there is a trolley tunnel. One of my friends has told me in this tunnel is our cities 2nd best art gallery. This art is mostly street art and graffiti, but art nonetheless. I have always wanted to see it, but am clearly terrified of going in this tunnel alone. He took me and Lil M in there today.

"fish" looks like an afterthought

And as a gentlemanly move, hopped into a dumpster and found some cardboard boxes so that when we had to crawl on the ground to get under the fence, we wouldn’t get too dirty. This might have been my favourite part if not for the incredible stuff in this tunnel.

It was really neat to see the art and then have someone explain why it was good or not, who the artists were (this friend also happens to be involved in this underground secret society) and some of the techniques used. He also told us how to steal paint and about his actual key and “keys”(read: bolt cutters) to the city.

He then snuck out a tag of his own. And then took us for cheap Mojitos.

Some days im just lame. nothing seems to get me out of a self-imposed funk. Nothing bad (0r great) happened today, but I just felt like it was the end of the world. However, music usually rescues me.
